We ran a session for a group of 5-11 year old's yesterday afternoon, based on mushrooms. We recently discovered that there are between 4-5 million different species of fungi and that there are more of them than there are plants! They come in all shapes and sizes and some even glow in the dark!
We looked at the dusty spores dropped from a mushroom cap and used the gills for inspiration to create prints.
The photo collages of Seana Gavin provided a fun starting point for the younger children to explore wax resist and collage.
To reinforce shape, colour and form, mushroom mosaics and 3D mushrooms were molded out of clay.
