The children had requested that they learn about art from a different culture. Peacocks are the national bird of India.
Peacock feathers were used for inspiration and the children had to concentrate on line, colour and texture. They produced pencil drawings, wax resist impressions and printed feather motifs.
To create printed feathers, lines were indented into a piece of Styrofoam. Ink was applied to the printing plate and pressure applied to the back of the plate. The children have begun to understand that a print can be repeated several times.
The children's feathery studies were photo copied and cut out to create a beautiful collaged peacock.
